About

Carter Byrd

My name is Carter Byrd. I am a sports nut that has spent his life in and around sports nonstop. Growing up, I basically spent every free minute of time playing, practicing and training for sports. As high school rolled around, I began to focus on baseball, my best sport. I ended up attending Auburn University to play baseball where injuries forced me to hang up my spikes in the fall of my freshman year.

Now that playing baseball was off the table, I looked for what was next. I had always said that I had a “sports brain” and loved to break down and analyze sports and had the ability to write thanks to my English teacher mother, so I began majoring in sports journalism.

Along the way, I fell in love with sports radio and debating sports topics. I interned with “The Opening Drive” with Jay Barker, Al Del Greco and Tony Kurre. Soon after, I began working for the Auburn Sports Network and started a radio show called “Standing Room Only” on WEGL 91.1 FM, Auburn’s student radio station. I also began co-hosting “The Xtra Point” on WEGL as well.

In the summer of 2020, I was the third co-host of “The Lunch Break” on ESPN 106.7 FM in Auburn with Painter Sharpless and Justin Ferguson.

I hosted the “This Week in Auburn Athletics” podcast on the Auburn Sports Network for a year starting in August of 2020.

In August of 2021, I graduated from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University with a master’s in sports media.
